Developed by Dr. John E. Upledger, this approach focuses on the detection and correction of imbalances in the craniosacral system, which comprises the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Upledger's CST is a hands-on technique in which practitioners use gentle manual pressure (usually no more than 5 grams) to assess and release restrictions in the craniosacral system.

The primary goal of Upledger's CST is to enhance the body's natural healing process by removing blockages and improving the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. This approach is based on the idea that restrictions in the craniosacral system can lead to various health issues, including headaches, neck and back pain, stress, and emotional imbalances.

Upledger's CST incorporates various techniques, such as the "10-Step Protocol," which serves as a foundational sequence for addressing imbalances in the craniosacral system. The therapy may also include techniques like the "Still Point," which involves applying light pressure to the base of the skull to induce a state of deep relaxation and promote self-healing.
